Beaches East of Malibu Pier Get 'F' Grade

Beachgoers planning to head to a spot on the sand near Topanga's beaches for the Fourth of July might want to reconsider.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH), samples taken 50 yards east of the Malibu Pier at did not meet state standards for ocean-water bacteria and received an "F" grade in the 30-day average. As a result, swimmers should avoid water contact 100 yards on both sides of the pier, the DPH said.

Despite the water warning, the beach received an "A" grade in the 30-day average.

Carbon Canyon Beach in front of the Sweetwater Canyon storm drain in Pacific Palisades received a "B" grade.

The Santa Ynez storm drain and stairs at 17200 Pacific Coast Highway at Will Rogers State Beach in the Palisades met the standards with "A" grades. Two locations at the received "A" grades.
