Track Star Chapus Shines at CIF Masters Meet

The Harvard-Westlake High junior qualifies for the state championships in three events.

Pacific Palisades resident has been running like the wind all spring, so it's no surprise that she is seemingly saving her best performances for last.

A junior at Harvard-Westlake High in North Hollywood, Chapus qualified for the in three events in Friday's at Cerritos College. 

One week after leading the Wolverines to their first Southern Section Division 3 girls team title, Chapus raised her game yet another notch with second-place finishes in the 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters, qualifying for state in both.

She then joined Amy Weissenbach, Lauren Hansson and K.C. Cord to break the school record in the 4x400 relay. The Wolverines' foursome clocked 3:44.05 to finish runner-up in the fifth-fastest national prep time this spring.  

Chapus won the 1,600 and 3,200 and added the 4x400 title with Weissenbach, Hanssen and Cord at the Southern Section finals, where Harvard-Westlake finished 14 points ahead of second-place San Luis Obispo.

A former multi-sport star at , Chapus won her second consecutive state Division IV cross country championship in the fall and played on the Wolverines' varsity soccer team in the winter.

She will seek her next record at the state finals Friday and Saturday at Buchanan High in Clovis.
