Pali Red Baseball Team Captures West L.A. Championship

Pali Red defeats Santa Monica Red 10-3 with three players combining for seven hits.

Pali Red jumped out to an early lead on SM Red and captured a 10-3 victory on Tuesday, May 21 at John Adams Middle School in Santa Monica in the West Los Angeles Pony Championship.

Head Coach Chip Stuart said the game was decided quickly as Pali Red exerted its will early with eight runs in the first three innings.

At the top of the first inning, Pali Red took an early 2-0 lead and added more runs with an RBI single by Henry Coquillard and an RBI single by Gabe Stewart in the first inning and an RBI single by Sam Goldman, a two-run double by Nik Trapani, and a sacrifice fly by Coquillard during the second inning supplied the early offense for Pali Red.

The teams traded runs for most of the early innings, keeping it tight with a few lead changes.

Goldman put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for Pali Red and hitting four out five times at bat.

Nik Trapani held steady on the mound on the way to a win. He allowed three runs over three innings. He struck out four, walked four and surrendered four hits.

Henry Coquillard took over the mound and shut Santa Monica Red down at the plate and got a big out in the seventh.

Trapani, Zach Lynch and Goldman helped lead Pali Red, combining for seven hits and three RBIs.

Pali Red closer John Dietsch put away the final two outs to record the save and championship.

Santa Monica Red scored three runs of its own in the first and then scored on an RBI double, a walk and an RBI single.

Pali Red tacked on another two runs in the third. A error scored Cade Christiansen to start the scoring in the inning. That was followed up by Goldman's single, plating Gabe Galef.

After posting one run in the fourth, Pali Red again scored one in the fifth. In the fourth, Pali Red scored on a wild pitch, scoring Trapani.

Pali Red finsihed the season at 14-6 and was the third ranked team in the league going into the playoffs behind SM Red and Gardena which they beat to claim braging rights for 2013.

Coach Stuart was quoted after the game "see you in the Fourth of July parade!"
