Dolphins Squads Earn High Seeds

The Palisades High girls basketball team is seeded No. 1 in the City Division II playoffs and the boys are fifth in Division I; kickers also awarded Top-5 spots.

The Palisades High girls' basketball team has been awarded the top seed in the City Section Division II playoffs by a selection committee that determined the brackets Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins (20-9), who finished second in the Western League behind Fairfax, will host 16th-seeded Maywood Academy in the first round Friday at 7 p.m. The Nighthawks (1-13) finished last in the Southern League. 

Boys Basketball

Palisades (16-12) is seeded fifth in Division I and hosts No. 12 South Gate (15-11) in the first round Thursday at  7 p.m. The Dolphins finished second in league behind Westchester, which  got seeded No. 2 and is on the opposite side of the bracket from Palisades, meaning the schools would not meet until the finals. Woodland Hills Taft was the unanimous pick at No. 1, Marine League winner Washington was seeded third and, after some debate, Coliseum League champion Crenshaw got the nod at No. 4 ahead of Palisades.

Girls Soccer

The Dolphins were seeded second out of 16 teams in the City Section Divisional playoffs, behind only West Valley League champion El Camino Real (16-2-3). Palisades (19-1-1), which has scored 79 goals and allowed only four all season, will host 15th-seeded Woodland Hills Taft on Thursday at 3 p.m. The Toreadors (6-12-6) finished fifth in the West Valley League and dealt the Dolphins their only loss in mid-December.

Boys Soccer

Palisades got seeded No. 5 in the 32-team Large Schools draw and will host No. 28 Granada Hills Kennedy on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the opening round of the single-elimination tournament. The Dolphins (12-1-5) won the Western League by half a game over University (12-4-3), which is seeded 10th and will host No. 23 San Pedro on Wednesday. Kennedy (12-4-6) finished runner-up to top-seeded San Fernando in the Valley Mission League.
