Voters Come in Droves to Pacific Palisades Precincts

A 15-minute late morning lull turned into a fast-paced environment of keen voters in the 2012 election at the Rustic Canyon Library on Tuesday.

"It's been good," said Rich Cronin, inspector for precinct 9005931A, noting as of 12:05 p.m. on Election Day 285 ballots were cast. "People lined up at 6:30 a.m."

Cronin said there was a break at 11 a.m. for only 15 minutes, then droves of voters began coming into the polling location at a faster pace again.

Inspector Kim Nicholas of precinct 9007683A, also at the Rustic Canyon Library polls, said 310 ballots were cast by 12 p.m.

The Palisades Recreation Center polls were bustling at 1:30 p.m. on election day. Inspector Linda Levee said they have four precincts reporting, the largest by far for Pali.

"We've been very busy she said," noting they had a line out the door and around the corner in the early morning. "We're very proud of that."

Levee could not get a ballot count at the hour because one of their machines malfunctioned in the morning hours and was down for an hour. It's working again.

Elliot Moscot, of Pacific Palisades, said he voted for the libertarian candidates on the ballot.

"I'm sick and tired of the Democratic and Republican monopoly," he said, noting that hopefully in the future a third party will emerge in the general elections. "I want to have a voice."

Rebecca Sperber and her son Adam, both of Palisades, exited the polls with smiles. It's Adam's first time voting. Both said they felt more strongly about the candidates than anything else.

"It was very smooth and organized," Rebecca said of the Pali Rec Center. "There are plenty of booths."

Irwin Feinberg waited outside the recreation center for his son Lyle, who was also voting for the first time. Irwin said his biggest concern is Proposition 30, one of two California education funding initiatives on the ballot.

"I'm involved in education and realize how important it is that we fund education," he said.
