Missing Hiker Found Dead in Apparent Suicide

The Santa Monica man went missing Thursday in Pacific Palisades.

A 44-year-old Santa Monica man reported missing Thursday after failing to return from a hike in Pacific Palisades was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Los Angeles Police Department Officer Bruce Borihanh said the man's body was discovered 10:20 p.m. Thursday in a trail area near Mandeville Canyon Road and Sunset Boulevard.

The hiker was reported missing around 5:35 p.m. Thursday in that area of Pacific Palisades. A helicopter was called in to assist in the search, according to police.

Family members of the missing man called police when he failed to return from the hike, KCAL9 reported.
