LAPD Helicopters Pursue Reckless Driver Racing Home in Pali

Pali Patch user captures video of helicopters in her neighborhood. A man was reportedly racing home to see his terminally ill wife.

Several Pacific Palisades residents alerted Patch on Facebook Monday afternoon of Los Angeles police helicopters hovering low and circling along Sunset Boulevard. It turned out to be the pursuit of a vehicle - a Mercedes Benz -  driving recklessly eastbound on the main thoroughfare, according to a detective in the department's media relations staff.

According to Palisades Patrol's CEO Scott Wagenseller, LAPD received a call Monday afternoon of a reckless driver on Sunset Boulevard going through the Palisades. The driver ended up going to his house, parking and walking inside, not knowing he was being followed by LAPD helicopters.

Wagenseller said Pali Patrol learned from LAPD it was an elderly man rushing home to see his terminally ill wife. There were no accidents and no one was reported injured. It's unknown if the driver received any charges.

One Facebook user said the incident last just more than one hour Monday.

Resident Elisabeth Venturini sent in the video attached to this post of LAPD helicopters circling in her neighborhood and using a loudspeaker.

Venturini and another resident described the scene on Facebook:

I'm on Chautauqua so I could see and hear them. They were shouting things like "pull over" "stay on the side walk" "stay inside your house." I have some video of it - Elisabeth Venturini

I'm near Chautauqua! That's about what I heard too! I only heard part of what they were saying! Thanks Elisabeth! - Georgia Dent Inferrera
