PHOTO: Temescal Canyon Construction Slowing Traffic

Construction reduces lanes near PCH in Pacific Palisades, forcing vehicles to make risky U-turns.

Updated 10:36 a.m., April 18

It's one lane in each direction Wednesday morning at the Temescal Canyon Road intersection with Pacific Coast Highway due to continued roadwork.

Reader Will Maguire sent in the above photo showing a slight traffic jam, calling it a real mess. Maguire said it appears workers are possibly preparing to lay new asphalt, but it is a real mess for downhill traffic. Vehicles are making risky U-turns to avoid the traffic further up Temescal Canyon Road.

Were you stuck in traffic Wednesday or recently at this intersection?

According to Jimmy Tokeshi of the Department of Public Works who contacted Patch late Wednesday, the construction work going up Temescal is being implemented by the Department of Water and Power. The work is scheduled up to the end of June and the construction hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

"In terms of the work going down Temescal, we believe it is a telephone contractor that closed the lane and we have been told the work will be completed today," Tokeshi said.

A landslide and tragedy at a nearby stormwater improvement project in March highlighted commuting and public safety issues in that immediate area. The city halted the stormwater improvement project but nearby road construction has continued.
