'Stories Around the World' Draws Kids to Palisades Library

"Stories Around the World" draws kids to the Palisades Library and kicks off the summer reading program.

Kids and parents gathered mid-June to hear "Stories Around the World" without leaving the Village.  The Palisades Branch of the Los Angeles Public Library held the event, featuring Puppeteer Len Levitt, to kick off their summer reading program.

Levitt grew up in the Palisades, so many attendees noted they knew the puppet master when he was a kid.

The summer reading club, called "One World Many Stories" is in full swing from June 11 through August 13, 2011.  Local kids from toddlers to teens are eligible for prizes, from books to movie tickets, for spending their summer with their nose in a good book.

This year, the library is igniting a bit of friendly competition between  young readers.  The librarians are challenging Marquez Charter and Palisades Elementary to get as many students as they can in their reading club.
