Police: Bicyclist Listed at Fault of Vehicle Collision on PCH

A bicyclist who collided with a Subaru Forester on the Pacific Coast Highway suffered severe injuries but is deemed at fault for the collision, according to the Los Angeles Police Department West Traffic Division.

The bicyclist, described as a white man approximately 30 years old, was pedeling eastbound across the PCH at 7:51 a.m. in the crosswalk that morning from Will Rogers State Beach when the Subaru struck him while traveling northbound, according to Officer Larry Johnson. The man suffered broken legs and lacerations to his arms and head.

Johnson said the accident report has the bicyclist listed as the cause of the accident.

"Bicyclists can't ride in the crosswalk," he said. "You have to walk it. As soon as you start pedeling you're basically considered a vehicle and have to consider the rules of the road."

Neither the name is a bicyclist, nor his listed condition at the hospital were released.
