Pali Patch Poll: Where Should the LADWP Station Go?

There have been two community meetings held in Pacific Palisades over the past few months regarding in the neighborhood.

According to the LADWP, due to increased power requirements in the community, a second power station is needed. The LADWP proposed two sites for the second station. One location is behind , which would mean LADWP would have to buy state park land. The second location is on Marquez Avenue, next to .

Many residents oppose the location at Marquez Elementary due to its close proximity to young children. Neighbors are also opposed to the location near Fire Station 23 because the is nearby.

, many parents, students and neighbors gathered at Marquez Elementary to discuss the power station with members of the Los Angeles Unified School District and the LADWP. Some attendees voiced fear of fire or explosions at the power station, as well as health risks associated with electromagnetic frequency (EMF).

LAUSD Board Member Steve Zimmer noted that the primary goal of Monday night's meeting was to “make sure that this does not become the preferred site."

According to the LADWP, the proposal for the power station is in the early stages and it is still looking for a site.
