Marquez Knolls Property Owners Seek Resolution to Bus Detour

The property owners association in Pacific Palisades asks for an update to the redesign of the west Marquez Avenue traffic island.

Since the Santa Monica Big Blue Bus and Metro altered its bus routes to detour down Marquez Avenue in Pacific Palisades to address redesigning a dangerous intersection, concerns have grown from Marquez Knolls residents, including the charter elementary school.

In a letter to the city Department of Transportation, Marquez Knolls Property Owners Association President Christy Dennis said that since the detour's implementation on March 15, it's been causing significant risk on an already congested street that supports three schools and a business district.

The need for Santa Monica Big Blue Bus and Metro to detour its buses is so DOT can reconfigure the traffic flow at the west intersection/island of Marquez Avenue and Sunset Boulevard.

A motorcyclist died at that intersection on Nov. 25, 2012 after colliding with a Santa Monica Big Blue Bus.

Dennis suggested beautifying the west traffic island similar to the east intersection of Marquez Avenue and Sunset Boulevard, and offered MKPOA to assist in funding the effort after cancellation of the detour.

The association urged the city to fast track a reconfiguration plan in an economic manner to begin the island's redesign.

City Councilman Bill Rosendahl's office received the letter, to which MKPOA reported back assurances that the reconfigured traffic island by LADOT is underway with a possible time frame available by July.
