LAPD Responds to Swatting Prank at Rihanna's House

Caller using singer's name makes two false crime reports to LAPD about a high-profile Pacific Palisades neighborhood.

Updated 5:35 p.m., April 4:

Rihanna's home in Pacific Palisades was visited by several police officers Thursday after a caller falsely reported two armed men were at the singer's home and a maid had been shot.

Multiple Los Angeles Police Department cruisers responded to the 900 block of Rivas Canyon Road to investigate two crime reports that turned out to be "swatting," or false reports of crime in which celebrities are targeted.

LAPD spokesperson Sally Madera said police got a call at 3 p.m. from someone "using the legal name of Rihanna," stating a maid working at the home had been shot.

"That happened to be a false alarm," Madera said.

Next, the caller said he or she saw a suspicious package.

"Which didn't exist," Madera added. "We confirmed it as swatting. There was no evidence of crime."

Since she moved to Pacific Palisades, Rihanna has attracted local headlines. In a Feb. 21 incident, a fan attempted to break into her home.

One Rivas Canyon Road neighbor, who did not want to be named, told Patch later Thursday afternoon that nearby residents are fed up with Rihanna and she should consider moving.

Georgia Dent Inferrera It's very annoying especially for a false alarm!! I'm not on Rivas, but close enough!
