Prior to joining the Patch team, I worked as a freelance copywriter and wrote news articles for the Sun Times Media chain of newspapers in the western suburbs. My journalism career started while I was engineering school. In 2000, I began studying Mechanical Engineering at Northern Illinois University. Several long years later, I was hired during the summer term at the Northern Star, the student paper at NIU.
