Barbara is President of Barbara Meltzer & Associates (BM&A), a Los Angeles-based Agency specializing in Public Relations and Marketing services for businesses, nonprofits and individuals that target Baby Boomers and seniors.

Her professional career began in her hometown of New York, as Assistant to the Producer of NBC's Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. After serving as Associate Producer for several ABC-TV comedy specials, Barbara moved to Los Angeles and was soon hired by NBC-TV as the Network's Director of Creative Services, where she supervised Public Relations campaigns for Network programming.

Later jumping from commercial to public television, Barbara joined KCET-TV as Executive-in-Charge of Talent for the station’s pledge drives. From there, she became an Account Executive with a local Public Relations and Government Affairs firm. She formed her own agency in 1992.

While maintaining a variety of other clients, Barbara's growing interest in the 50-and-over population, prompted her to guide BM&A toward making this an area of specialization.

Barbara’s role as a caregiver for her mother propelled her interest in aging issues and advocacy, and in 2007, Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky appointed her a Commissioner on the Los Angeles County Commission for Older Adults (LACCOA), where she Chairs the Communications Committee. In 2009, Barbara was honored by LACCOA for "outstanding volunteer service on behalf of LA County's senior population.”

A former Board Vice-President for the LA Chapter of Public Relations Society of America, Barbara currently serves on the Boards of UCLA’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and the Life Planning Network.

Featured on NBC-TV’s Nightly News and Today in LA, Barbara has been interviewed by several publications about aging issues, most recently the Wall Street Journal, about family caregiving.

A resident of West Hollywood since 1977, Barbara produced a very successful half-day symposium for the city in 2010, titled Pathways to Positive Aging: Creating Communities for a Lifetime.
