Palisades edges El Camino Real by half a point for its fourth straight City title.
Palisades High School is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and the boys tennis team dug deep to produce a historic victory Thurday afternoon at Balboa Sports Center in Encino. The City Section championship came down to the final set but Joe Silvers sealed the deal with his clutch 6-0 triumph over El Camino Real's Nick Koretsky to make the Dolphins winners by the slimmest possible margin, 15 points to 14 1/2, and clinch Palisades' 50th tennis title since the school opened in 1961. The Los Angeles Dodgers paid tribute to Jackie Robinson Monday night, then defeated the San Francisco Giants, 9-1, before a crowd announced at 43,713 in their first game at Dodger Stadium under their new ownership. Management says parking rates will be lower and fans will get more opportunities for autographs.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will play at Dodger Stadium Monday night for the first time under their new ownership, with a lower parking price, more access to team officials and a tribute to Jackie Robinson. The $15 general parking price that had been in effect since 2007 has been lowered to $10. Other decreases could be coming. Palisadian Evan Meister set the record for scoring the most points in a career last week.
Palisadian and Harvard-Westlake senior Evan Meister broke the school's record for the most points scored in a lacrosse career last week. Meister, the son of Los Angeles Lacrosse League founder Charlie Meister, is the senior captain of the Harvard-Westlake varsity lacrosse team. On April 24, Meister scored five points on two goals and three assists, leading to Harvard-Westlake's 8-7 win against Chaminade High School. His performance got him to a career 144 points on 70 goals and 74 assists, breaking the record of 140 points set by Cory Wizenberg last year. The Wolverines beat Crespi Carmelite High School Monday night, which means they won the Mission League. They are now in the playoffs. Meister played with the LA Lacrosse League and club …

The money will support community programs for kids in Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Lakers held a golf invitational at the Riviera Country Club Monday in Pacific Palisades. But it wasn't all about healthy competition, the 22nd annual Celebrity Golf Invitational and Dinner also benefitted the Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation. The event featured breakfast at the clubhouse, a cocktail reception, a silent auction and, of course, some golf, according to an article on the Lakers' website. Also according to the article, the event raised about $200,000 for the youth foundation, which focuses on "the use of sports to promote education, teamwork and self-esteem." The Pali High water polo and Westside Aquatics swim coach takes the title in our Readers' Choice poll.
Palisades Charter High School water polo and Westside Aquatics swim coach Adam Blakis claimed the No. 1 spot in our Readers' Choice poll for "Most Inspirational Coach" in Pacific Palisades. Nominees included Coach Charlie Naimo, head coach for the Pali Blues soccer team, and Coach Bob Gibson of Super Soccer Stars. According to Blakis' bio on the Westside Aquatics website, he has been coaching for 16 years. Blakis has worked with swimmers at University of California, Riverside, St. Monica's High School and the Palisades-Malibu YMCA to name a few.
