Lend a Green Thumb at the Native Plant Garden

Volunteers will begin planting at Temescal Canyon Park in Pacific Palisades Saturday.

If you have a gift for gardening, your talents are needed at Temescal Canyon Park on Saturday. A group of in several areas throughout the Native Plant Garden.

The volunteers, spearheaded by Palisadian and Landscape Designer Michael Terry, have been gathering monthly to clear weeds from the garden. After over a year of weed removal, the group will finally begin their planting work on Saturday.

Although volunteers will be there at 9 a.m., the group will mark the start of the planting season with a dedication ceremony at 11 a.m. Palisades Beautiful, a nonprofit group that works to plant trees and greenery throughout the area, purchased a Manzanita tree especially for the garden.

"[The tree is being planted] to honor one of Palisades Beautiful's founders, Dorothy Bissell, who was a main proponent of the Native Plant Garden when it was installed in 1988," Marinacci told Patch in an email.

Marinacci said the group was able to purchase plants thanks to a grant that the Pacific Palisades Garden Club received from the earlier this year.

The ceremony will be open to the public and the group welcomes any and all volunteers. So, if you'd like to lend a hand, the gardeners will be at the Native Plant Garden from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Marinacci said volunteers may arrive at any time that is convenient and that they could always use the help.

If you can't make it on Saturday, the group will be doing more planting during the cooler months ahead. Their work days are the last Saturday of every month.
