Patriotic Pali Bike Design Winners Announced

Three participants in this year's patriotic bike contest for the Pacific Palisades Fourth of July parade took home prizes, sponsored by The Yogurt Shoppe.

announced the winners for most patriotic designs on three Pacific Palisade childrens' bikes that rode in the .

The winners are:

  • Nathan Tom, age 6, won first place and received $100 cash.
  • Jackie Traenkle, age 7, won second place and received $50 cash.
  • Eliana Eisman, age 8, won third place, received a $25 gift card to the Shoppe. 

Tom and Traenkle came to the Shoppe on Friday with their parents to receive their winnings and have some yogurt. Owner Kevin Sabin said they had 75 kids participate in the event this year and the "most patriotic bikes" contest was a first for this year's "Kids on Bikes" portion of the parade.

Tom said it was his second time riding in the hometown parade.

"It was just stuff [I found] at grandma's house," he said about putting together his patriotic design.

Traenkle said her idea just popped in her head - a bike with two huge red, white and blue puffballs on the handlebars - adding she liked adding the ribbon and bows. With her winnings, Traenkle said she plans to get a new stuffed animal from .
