Palisadian Charlie Benell Signs With Texas A&M

The Harvard-Westlake golfer follows through on a verbal commitment made earlier this year.

Correction: A previous version of this story had Benell's first name incorrect. Charlie Benell is the golfer's correct name.

Back in May, Palisadian and then-Harvard-Westlake junior Charlie Benell made a verbal commitment to play golf at Texas A&M. On Friday, he made it official.

KBTX, a CBS television station that covers College Station, TX, reported on Benell's decision. According to the report, Adrià Arnaus of Barcelona, Spain, and Ben Crancer of Kirkwood, MO, would enter the program alongside Benell.

When Patch sports writer wrote about this past spring, Galluzzo noted that the varsity golfer had placed in the Top 10 in the Mission League since his freshman year. But Benell also makes the grade when it comes to academics. According to KBTX, the Harvard-Westlake senior is also on the honor roll.

“I chose Texas A&M because it is truly a special place with great academics and an amazing golf program,” Benell told KBTX reporters. “From my first visit to Texas A&M, I felt welcomed."
