Palisades High Swim Squads Head to City Prelims

The Dolphins look to establish that they are the school to chase at Friday's championship meet.

It's that time of year again. Time for the swim teams to set their sights on another City Section championship.

Despite the loss of 14 seniors from last year, Palisades has reloaded and is tapering for its biggest meet of the season.  

The City Section swimming preliminaries are Tuesday afternoon at John C. Argue Swim Stadium in Los Angeles and both the Dolphins' boys and girls teams want to position themselves for Friday's finals with strong performances.

While it has yet to be proven that Palisades is the best in the City, it left no doubt it is still best in the west after thoroughly dominating the league finals competition on campus at the new .

Swimming against Venice, Westchester, Hamilton, Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies and University, the Dolphins won at all four levels: boys and girls varsity and boys and girls junior varsity.

The varsity boys lapped the field, scoring 198 points. Venice was second with 89 points, folowed by LACES (73), University (30), Hamilton (24) and Westchester (6).

In the frosh/soph boys division, Palisades had 165 points, followed by LACES (94), Venice (52), University (45) and Westchester (19).

In the girls varsity competition, Palisades showed its depth by racking up 232 points, followed by Venice (147), LACES (44), University (33) and Hamilton (22).

In the frosh/soph girls division, Palisades stroked to 163 points, followed by LACES (73), Venice (42), University (35) and Hamilton (24).

won the 50-yard freestyle to become frosh/soph league champion and fellow 10th-grader took first place in the 100-yard butterfly to become frosh/soph league champion in that event.

Palisades' 200 to 400 medley and freestyle relay teams all won as the Dolphins applied the finishing touches to an undefeated league season and now focus on the all-important "second season."

Last year, the girls varsity reclaimed the City title with a narrow 409-404 victory over Cleveland and the boys varsity took third place, a mere three points behind runner-up Birmingham. 

The City swim finals are Friday from 2-6 p.m. at John C. Argue Swim Stadium.
