Junior Lifeguards Splash Seal Beach

Will Rogers "trainees" make waves at the state regional competition.

Members of the Junior Lifeguard program at Will Rogers State Beach returned from last Friday's Regional Competition with medals draped around their necks and smiles on their faces.

Representing their program on the Los Angeles County team, Will Rogers guards participated in numerous races in all age groups at the day-long event in Seal Beach.

In the "C" Division (ages 9-11), finished seventh in the Boys Distance Run. Going into sixth-grade at Carlthorp School in Santa Monica, Partain was first in the 12-and-under age group in this year's Palisades-Will Rogers 10K.

finished third in the "C's" in the Girls Run-Swim-Run and fourth in the Distance Swim and she also competed on LA County's fourth-place Boys/Girls Swim Relay team. She will be a sixth-grader at Paul Revere Middle School in the fall.

In the "B" Division (ages 12-13), 13-year-old won the Boys Distance Run. He just graduated from Calvary Christian School and will be a freshman at Palisades High in the fall.

Will Rogers teammate took 11th place in the Boys Run-Swim-Run and contributed to LA County's second-place finish in the Boys/Girls Swim Relay. The 13-year-old Palisadian will be entering eighth grade at Wildwood School in Los Angeles.

In the “A’” Division (ages 14-15), and were on LA County's first-place Boys/Girls Swim Relay team. Marsh also won the Boys Distance Swim and finished second in the Boys Run-Swim-Run while Ramirez was third in the Girls Distance Swim. 

Marsh, 15, will be a sophomore at Palihi in the fall and has been in the Junior Lifeguard program for seven years. He was on the Palihi varsity swim team in the spring and took second place in the 200 individual medley at the City Section finals. Ramirez, 14, will be a ninth-grader at Brentwood School.

was second in the Boys Distance Run, was in the Distance Paddle event and competed on LA County's third-place Paddle Relay team. Gallie will be a 10th-grader at Palihi and has been in the Junior Lifeguard program for six years.  

In the "AA" and "Cadets" Division (ages 16-17), won the Girls Run-Swim-Run and Distance Swim events while Will Rogers teammate was second in the Run-Swim-Run and third in the Distance Swim.

Kirkpatrick lives in Austin, Texas, but has returned to Pacific Palisades for the past four summers to participate in the Junior Lifeguard program.

Stilz, a second-year Cadet who attends Notre Dame High in Sherman Oaks, was also on LA County's first-place Boys/Girls Swim Relay team.

Will Rogers guard was on LA County's winning Boys/Girls Paddle Relay and she also won the Girls Distance Paddle event.

Silka will be a senior at Palihi, where she helped lead the girls team to its second straight City Section swim title in May. In her second year as a Cadet, she and Kirkpatrick have been in the program since they were 9-year-olds and both will compete at the Junior Guard Nationals in Cape May, New Jersey, next week.

Will Rogers' junior lifeguards will be back in the water for the Taplin Relays this Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Dockweiler Beach. There will also be a six-member relay for the "A" and "AA" divisions Saturday night.
