Former Palihi Basketball Star Commits to Albany

Pasadena City College's Dominique Scott accepts a full scholarship to the Division I school.

Dominique Scott, a three-year starter on the Palisades High girls varsity basketball team and now a sophomore center at Pasadena City College, is taking her talents to the NCAA Division I level. She has committed to the University of Albany in New York on a full-ride scholarship.

"I'm very happy for her," Palisades High Coach said. "She really sparked the turnaround on our program and contributed so much to it. She's also stopped by and helped out since she's graduated, which is always good to see."

Scott averaged 14.2 points, 13.5 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game as a junior in 2007-08 and 17.8 points, 11.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.6 steals and 2.2 blocks as a senior captain in 2008-09 when she was named Western League Most Valuable Player and made First Team All-City. Palisades lost to Dorsey, 72-70, in the first round of the Division I playoffs that year.

Scott was recently selected Most Valuable Player in the South Coast Conference after averaging 15 points and 11 rebounds per game. As a freshman at PCC she led the Lancers in blocked shots (34) and in the team's regular season finale this winter she tied a school-record with 10 three-pointers and finished with 39 points.

Scott worked out at Johnson and assistant coach 's first clinic last month, where she said she was considering scholarship offers from Fresno State and Albany. Scott's favorite NBA player is Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant, so she should fit right in with the Great Danes, whose colors happen to be purple and gold.

Three other Dolphins basketball players also made headlines this week.

Senior forward , a Second Team All-City and First-Team All-Western Leaguer, is set to walk on at the University of Michigan. Flyer averaged 9.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game in helping the Dolphins win the City Section Division II title.

, the Dolphins' point guard, has been named to the 2011 Cal-Hi Sports Girls Basketball All-State Underclass Team. Bruner, a five-foot-six guard, is among 20 juniors in California to make the team and the only player from the LA City Section. A week earlier, she made the Cal-Hi All-State Division II Girls Team.

"She's a great kid, a great leader and it's nice to see her getting some recognition as one of the best players at her position" Johnson said of Bruner, who made First Team All-City and First Team All-Western League in the winter. "That's a pretty select list and the fact that she's the only player from the City says a lot about her ability."

Six-foot-two junior guard made the 2011 Cali-Hi Sports Boys Basketball All-State Underclass Team. Johnson is the only City Section player on the junior squad. He was named Most Outstanding Player in the Western League and made First Team All-City in 2010-11.
