Race and Raise Money at the Pali Tri

The 5K run, 10K bike ride and 150-meter swim benefits youth community programs in Pacific Palisades.

will be buzzing with excitement on Oct. 23 when the Rotary Club of Pacific Palisades hosts a mini reverse triathlon, also known as the .

The Pali Tri will feature a 5K run on closed streets, a 10K bike ride and a 150-meter swim at Pali High's Maggie Gilbert Aquatic Center. A "fun run" for kids will also allow younger athletes to take part.

However, triathletes and runners aren't simply asked to put their fastest foot forward. Participants are also encouraged to race in a Halloween costume or to slather on some spooky body paint.

"Every time I go to a race, I can’t help but smile. Everyone is excited about either racing or watching friends and family racing. It’s a community festival atmosphere, and everyone has a great time," said David Card, who is the president of the Rotary Club of Pacific Palisades. "Dressing for Halloween makes this race fun, like the [San Francisco] Bay to Breakers without the bar hopping."

Helmets are required for cyclists and costumes cannot impair vision. Also, Card said participants should make sure costumes don't involve anything that could make you trip, or have pieces that could get caught in a bike.

"Pali Tri is all about healthy fun, fitness and community. But, the underlying goal is to benefit community youth programs," said Card. "Rotary wants to expand its longstanding support for student academic scholarships for Pali High and Revere graduates, the youth programs of our and the Santa Monica Bay area scout camps and needy campers."

The approximately 2-hour road race begins at 8 a.m. in the Asilomar bluff area (please see the PDF above for a map) and the Kids Fun Run will begin on the Pali High track at 9:30 a.m. Parking will be on Sunset Boulevard and Temescal Canyon Road, with some parking on the Pali High campus.

The race will be followed by the 14th Annual Village Fair, hosted by the, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Pali High. There will be food, rides, a petting zoo and more. So, prepare for a day of fun!

"We all love the July 4th race, parade and fireworks in the Palisades. The Rotary Club hopes that [the] Pali Tri and the Chamber’s Village Fair ... will become a community event approaching that, bringing the community together to celebrate a holiday, have fun in a healthy way for the whole family and bring us together as a community for a good cause," said Card.
