Palisades' Eames House Receiving Architectural Preservation Work

A pilot program is testing the structure of the famed rectangular home the Eames House on the bluffs in Pacific Palisades, according to the Los Angeles Times. It's part of the Getty Conservation Institute's Conserving Modern Architecture Initiative.

Remarkably, researchers are finding not much has changed since Ray and Charles Eames built the home in 1949.

The unconventional Eames home was highly-customized and built with prefabricated materials and easily available products. The Eames Foundation is charged with preserving the house and the designers' creative legacy, and is conducting various paint tests and are monitoring the floor.

One of the architects with the project said that since there' a marine environment, they need to look at temperature fluctuations on a day-by-day basis, humidity levels and how they change over time, as well as wind, precipitation and temperature differentials.
