The Santa Monica Bay Restoration Foundation will celebrate 25 years of service next month with fundraising gala.

The event is set for 6 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica.

Sheila Kuehl, who introduced the legislation that created the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission, will emcee the evening.  The SMBRC is a non-regulatory, locally-based state entity. SMBRF is the non-profit partner of the Commission.

The event will honor former Congressman Mel Levine, D-Santa Monica, who was able to get the Santa Monica Bay recognized as a National Estuary Program; David Nahai, an environmental attorney; and State Sen. Fran Pavley, a member of the SMBRC governing board.

The first Urban Coast Environmental Hero Award will be presented at the event.
