Pali Residents Notice More Sunset Blvd Speed Enforcement

The issue of late-night motorcycles and general speeding along Sunset Boulevard in Pacific Palisades has been brought to Assemblymember Richard Bloom's attention.

As concerns of speeding cars and late-night motorcycles continue to frustrate Palisadians, attention continues to grow on the complex issue.

The Pacific Palisades Community Council learned Thursday night that Assemblymember Richard Bloom's office is aware of the issue.

Field Representative Stephanie Cohen told the council Bloom's office is interested in continuing the discussion with the council and hopefully other city agencies.

"It's not just a law enforcement issue but a city ordinance issue," Cohen noted. "There needs to be a city ordinance to address it more tightly."

Coincidentally this week, Pali Patch readers have noticed more Los Angeles Police Department speeding enforcement. Here's a sample from the Facebook page:

Thought you might like to know today there was a high number of police presence along Sunset, from what I saw, Marquez to Allenford. They are finally doing something about the high speeds on Sunset Motor Speedway. That's what I call it. - Esther Jacobson

It was overkill in Riviera. This morning there were at least 3 motorcycle cops and 2 or more police cars. They were lined up. It doesn't seem fair as they could pull most cars over. - Loren Levy

Good luck. We all know they will be there for a week? And then it's back to Indy race car. - Jason Handy

Further constraining the issue of speeding vehicles along Sunset Boulevard are a historic Wednesday night group of motorcycle riders that have plagued nearby Pali residents with safety and noise concerns for several years. As of Wednesdays rainy night of July 10, the riders keep coming at high speeds down the iconic thoroughfare.

The LAPD told the community council in last September they did a crackdown via an eight-hour speeding task force on Aug. 29, 2012 that netted 104 citations. No updated figures have been publicly released or discussed since then.
