Mike Bonin to Visit Palisades Library, Station 69

The new Los Angeles District 11 city councilman tours the Westside on his first day in office.

Mike Bonin, the longtime chief of staff for Councilman Bill Rosendahl, was sworn into office Sunday, succeeding Rosendahl in representing the 11th District, which includes Brentwood, Pacific Palisades, Venice, Mar Vista and Westchester.

Bonin will be at the Palisades Branch Library from 6 to 6:30 p.m. to speak with guests, and then heads to nearby Station 69 to meet with firefighters from 7 to 7:45 p.m.

Bonin's already spent Monday in his district, meeting with constituents, police officers and firefighters, visiting small businesses and helping pick up garbage in Mar Vista, repair streets in Venice and serve lunches to senior citizens at the Felicia Mahood Senior Center in West Los Angeles.

"I intend to be a hands-on council member who gets things done for our neighborhoods,” Bonin said. “My first obligation and my top priority is to serve my district and that will be the exclusive focus of my first day in office."

On his Facebook page early Monday morning Bonin posted the following:

Good morning, Los Angeles!

I am at your service. As a brand new councilmember, I want to start out on the right note- by serving you, in our neighborhoods, and by getting things done.

Today, I'm not going downtown to my new office. I'm going to be in my district – filling potholes, cleaning up our streets, and checking-in on our local parks, playgrounds, and libraries. I will be visiting with seniors and meeting with some of our local cops, firefighters, and small business owners who create jobs.

I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you, represent this district, and help lead the city. Together, we can move Los Angeles forward, do good, and get things done.

Bonin's goals include bringing City Hall closer to the residents of his district through a community engagement program dubbed “Access 11,” which will combine personal outreach with technology.

“We need a Mayberry approach and an iPhone sensibility,” Bonin said. “Access 11 will set a new standard for accessibility and transparency by harnessing the best, most creative ideas the people of Council District 11 have to offer.”

Access 11 will include Bonin holding regular and open office hours nights and weekends at farmers markets, fire and police stations, senior citizen centers, libraries and neighborhood stores; hikes in the Santa Monica Mountains and Ballona Wetlands; neighborhood coffees; and holding town hall meetings that will be livestreamed on the Internet and allow his constituents to participate from their homes.
