Los Angeles County officials and activists encouraged residents today to register to vote by the end of the day so they can participate in the June 3 election.

Residents can apply online at www.lavote.net or in person at the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk's office at 12400 Imperial Highway in Norwalk.

People can also obtain applications at public libraries, Department of Motor Vehicles offices, U.S. Post Offices and most government buildings.

"We encourage everyone in Los Angeles County to vote on June 3," said Arnulfo de la Cruz, director of the Mi Familia Vota Education Fund. "Invite your family, a friend, a loved one, bring your whole family if you have to."

Los Angeles County has 4.8 million registered voters.

"I think it's safe to say, when L.A. County votes, California changes," said Efrain Escobedo, governmental and legislative affairs manager for the L.A. County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk.

Escobedo noted that the county is looking for volunteer poll workers in many beach cities.

The county offers election assistance in Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Spanish, Tagalog, Thai and Vietnamese by calling at (800) 481- 8683.
