Butler Exceeds $1M in Campaign Contributions, Expenditures

During the most recent filing period, between Oct. 1-20, Betsy Butler raises a third of her campaign's total earnings and about $100,000 shy of opponent Richard Bloom's total campaign chest.

Assemblywoman Betsy Butler's campaign fundraising efforts in the race for the 50th Assembly District has seen an exponential leap in the last 20 days.

Numbers released Friday on the Secretary of State website for the period between Oct. 1-20 show that Butler raised some $407,504, or about a third of the campaign's earnings since Jan. 1.

Butler has spent some $1.45 million on her campaign since the beginning of the year.

Santa Monica Mayor Richard Bloom raised $114,703 during the most recent reporting period and has raised a total of $507,352 since Jan. 1.

Bloom has spent a total of $596,446 on his campaign this year.

Over 80% of that money comes from Sacramento. OUTSIDE the District- which is kinda poetic since Betsy herself is from OUTSIDE the District.

I have to agree with Jeff B. In fact, I saw Betsey speak at a forum, and when asked why she chose this area to run when her district was split, she essentially said it was the one area she could win.

I wouldn't vote for Richard Bloom if he was the only candidate running. I've come accross bad politicians and Bloom is one of the worst. Terrible on the environment. No accountability. Won't meet do discuss concerns. Wasting millions of dollars on bogus projects just to say he's stimulating the economy. What a sham.

Is that the truth! Bloom is so bad, even Betsy Butler, too conservative for most SM voters, looks great. Anything to get that developers' lapdog out of politics.

Better than proving he's a developers' lapdog by getting paid back for all his votes by developers. Richard Bloom is a disgrace to humanity, not just to politicians. To have run on a "smart growth" campaign originally and have called himself an environmentalist but then vote for every development anyone suggested makes him a liar besides someone who cares nothing for residents who elected him--he's just like Gleam Davis and Terry O'Day. I don't care where Betsy Butler lives. She sent someone to SM to say she was against destroying 109 homes people own here so another developer--whom Richard Bloom has helped try to get around our rent control rights for six years--can make a profit. Being for the residents who elected you--not developers, tourists, and/or your own future--is what matters. Richard Bloom is all that is wrong with politics and with people who can't see real values.
