Palisades Man Sentenced in Match.com Assault Case

Alan Wurtzel will spend a year in jail and register as a sex offender.

Pacific Palisades resident Alan Paul Wurtzel, 67, was sentenced today after pleading no contest last month to a charge of sexual battery by restraint in connection with a woman he met on the dating service Match.com.

According to a report from City News Service, Wurtzel will serve a year in jail for attacking the woman, another year in a program for sex offenders and must register as a sex offender. In addition, he will complete five years of probation and not be able to use computers or telephones for social networking without permission from a probation officer.

The woman sued Match.com after she did an Internet search and found out that Wurtzel had been convicted before on sexual assault charges. She settled her case with the service the week after Wurtzel's plea. Match.com has agreed to screen applicants for sexual assault charges.
