Woman Rescued After Tramway Elevator Falls 150 Feet

The Los Angeles Fire Department says the woman is in stable condition.

According to Los Angeles Fire Station 23 in Pacific Palisades, a woman was rescued after an elevator car fell about 150 feet and crashed at the bottom Wednesday afternoon.

Engine 23, Rescue 23, Los Angeles County Engine 70 and Squad 71 from Malibu responded to the call at 3:22 p.m. in the 18100 block of Coastline Drive.

Firefighters said a cable on a tramway elevator broke, causing the car to fall. According to first responders on the scene, the car was smashed and had demolished a block wall. A 65-year-old woman was inside.

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to cut the tram car open.

According to Station 23, the woman suffered severe head, shoulder, arm and back injuries.

The woman was flown to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical center in stable condition, according to Station 23.
