UPDATE: Vandals Spray-Painted Swastikas on 9 Cars in Pacific Palisades

Police are unsure if this is a hate crime because the slurs were not consistent with the victims' ethnicity.

Nine vehicles were vandalized with spray-painted swastikas and racial slurs in Pacific Palisades over the weekend, authorities said today.

The vandalism occurred early Sunday morning in the general area of Sunset Boulevard in the western area of the Palisades, said Los Angeles police Sgt. John Juarez of the West Los Angeles Station.

The vehicles — seven of which were Toyota Priuses — apparently were chosen at random, and the victims' ethnicity generally did not match the slurs, Juarez said.
