The man and woman are being evaluated by paramedics to determine if they need hospitalization.

By City News Service

City firefighters airlifted to safety a man and a woman who were hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains Saturday and either suffered injuries or became ill, a fire department spokesman said.

The hikers, who were north of Will Rogers State Beach, called 911 about 3:15 p.m., fire department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

The two people were airlifted from the area to another location by emergency personnel about 4:45 p.m., he said. The hikers were being given medical evaluations by paramedics to determine whether they will be hospitalized for further treatment, Humphrey said.
