Stolen Prius Pursuit Ends in Palisades

A 45-minute pursuit ends when a suspected car thief crashes into a gate on Los Liones Drive and Sunset Boulevard Tuesday morning, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

A suspected car thief in a Toyota Prius led police officers on an early morning pursuit Tuesday from the Del Rey area to Pacific Palisades, where he crashed through a gate, authorities said.

The 45-minute pursuit began around 2:15 a.m. at Centinela Avenue and Culver Boulevard when officers spotted the hybrid, which had been reported stolen, said Lt. Marco Munoz of the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Station.

Officers followed the car until it crashed through a gate at Los Liones Drive and Sunset Boulevard in Pacific Palisades, sustaining substantial damage, Munoz said.

The suspect tried to run away, prompting the officers to give chase and resort to a "minor use of force,'" Munoz said, adding that the suspect and the officers suffered minor injuries. The suspect was booked on suspicion of grand theft auto, Munoz said.
