UPDATED: Small Brush Fire in Pacific Palisades

Five acres have burned. The Los Angeles Fire Department gave the blaze its own hashtag. New photos posted.

UPDATE at 4:22 p.m.: Palisades Drive is completely open in both directions, reports Palisades Patrol. The fire should be fully contained in about an hour and brush crews will remain all night for clean up. Area burned is now estimated to be five acres.

Mayor Eric Garcetti announced via his Twitter account at 3:44 p.m. that the fire had been brought under control.

"Great work by over 150 @LAFD personnel in Pacific Palisades today. Fire is under control, but crews will be there all night to keep safe," he tweeted.


UPDATE at 3:39 p.m.: At this time, the fire is 90 percent contained, Palisades Patrol is reporting. 

UPDATE at 2:55 p.m.: 
Residents are being allowed back in the Highlands, however only five residents are allowed at a time, according to Palisades Patrol.

UPDATE at 2:51 p.m.: 
Firefighters have set up a command post at Palisades Circle at Palisades Drive, according to City News Service. The Los Angeles Fire Department has asked Twitter fans to use #PaliFire.

UPDATE at 2:36 p.m.: 
Fire officials estimate the Pacific Palisades fire has charred 10 acres. Homes were threatened, causing firefighters to go into "structure protection" mode; 167 Los Angeles city firefighters were rushed to Santa Ynez Canyon, city fire spokesman Brian Humphrey said. Three city fire helicopters were also assigned to the fire, which was reported at about 12:30 p.m. 

UPDATE at 2:33 p.m.: 
The fire is listed as pre-contained. Palisades drive remains closed from Sunset, according to Palisades Patrol. 

UPDATE at 1:50 p.m.:
 All through traffic has been shut down at Sunset Boulevard and Palisades Drive, according to Palisades Patrol.

UPDATE at 1:38 p.m.: The location of the brush fire has been updated to the hillside area behind Calle de Sevilla/Avenida de Santa Ynez. No evacuations in place at the moment. Residents with valid ID will have access to the area, according to Palisades Patrol.

Los Angeles city firefighters are battling a one-quarter acre brush fire in the Pacific Palisades, at 17169 Avenida de Santa Ynez, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles City Fire Department.

While there have been no formal evacuations yet, officials are asking residents to be ready to move, if necessary. 

City News Service reports Santa Ynez Canyon is part of Malibu Creek State Park, north of Gladstones 4 Fish.

Palisades Patrol reports the fire has has prompted Los Angeles police to shut down most traffic on Palisades Drive from Sunset Boulevard. Only residents are allowed access.

The brush fire is estimated to be near the water reservoir behind Santa Ynez Road, Palisades Patrol reported.

Firefighters from Santa Monica have joined the effort.
