Update: Murder-Suicide; Airplane Crash; Alleged Burglary Attempt

West Los Angeles sees a murder-suicide and a plane crash and an alleged burglar is nabbed by police in the Palisades.

Los Angeles police found the bodies of two men involved in an apparent murder-suicide on the 2400 block of Colby Avenue in West Los Angeles at approximately 12:10 a.m. on Saturday.

The victim, identified as the property landlord, 80-year-old Alphonse Bernardin Jr., was seated inside his home when the suspect allegedly entered and shot him twice in the chest with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol and then shot himself in the head, according to police.

The suspect's name has been withheld pending notification of his next-of-kin.

The suspect was renting a converted, detached garage located in the back of the residence, according to police. West Bureau homicide detectives learned that the suspect and Bernardin had been engaged in an ongoing dispute for the past several weeks.

LAPD ground and air units were dispatched to the 600 block of Alma Real Drive in Pacific Palisades at 2:10 a.m. Saturday after receiving a call for a tripped house alarm.

One suspect, described as a 6-foot, 220-pound Caucasian male in his early 40's, was taken into custody after police reportedly saw him in the house.

The residents were not at home during the alleged burglary.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. a police helicopter made a precautionary landing at the Pacific Palisades Recreation Center after receiving an engine fire warning light, according to police.

A small plane crashed in a West L.A. intersection near the 2100 block of South Glendon Avenue Friday night, killing one person aboard.
