Photo Released of Car Model Believed to Have Killed Man in Palisades Hit-and-Run

Detectives have determined that the hit-and-run vehicle was a 1990-1992 Volvo 740 station wagon that was "light to medium" in color.

Police today released a photo of the type of vehicle they believe was driven by the hit-and-run motorist responsible for the Dec. 27 death of a federal judge's son in Pacific Palisades.

David Pregerson was walking on Chautauqua Boulevard, south of Sunset Boulevard, when he was fatally struck about 3 a.m. that Friday. He was declared dead at a hospital four days later.

The 23-year-old budding filmmaker, who had recently graduated from UCLA, was the son of U.S. District Judge Dean Pregerson and the grandson of U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Harry Pregerson.

Pregerson's father, Dean, said earlier that he believes the crime was likely committed by young people in their own community.

"My wife and I are prepared to urge compassion for those who come forward, whether they are involved or witnesses," he said on March 26. "We will do our best to understand your thoughts and consider what you have to say, but if you hide, if you perpetrate this tragedy further by protecting people, then, we will spend the rest of our lives trying to find you, and we will not feel that level of compassion and understanding."

Anyone with information is urged to call Detective John Skaggs at (213) 382-9470, or the LAPD's around-the-clock tipline, (877) LAPD-247.
