Update: Crash Closed Southbound PCH Near Topanga Canyon

Per California Highway Patrol, all lanes of PCH were opened as of 6:20 p.m.

7:14 p.m. UPDATE: Per, California Highway Patrol, the incident is under investigation and there were no further details about the crash as of 7:14 p.m. A CHP spokeswoman said witnesses had reported three cars were involved in the crash. Patch will check with the investigating officer for details as they become available.

6:47 p.m. UPDATE: LAFD in Pacific Palisades responded to the crash on PCH. Captain Perez confirmed six people were taken to area hospitals, four with serious injuries. Perez said one person was extricated from a vehicle using the Jaws of Life.

6:24 p.m UPDATE: Per CHP, all lanes were reopened and the Sig Alert canceled as of 6:20 p.m.

6:18 p.m. UPDATE: KNX News reported both of the southbound lanes of PCH were open as of 6:15 p.m. One northbound lane was closed while crews remained on the scene. KNX reported that even with the open lanes, traffic was backed up for miles.

6:12 p.m. UPDATE: Per the CHP website, the southbound lanes would remain closed until about 7 p.m.

5:30 p.m. UPDATE: Per LAFD, seven people were injured in the crash. All patients needed immediate care. KNX News reporded the collision was just south of Topanga Canyon Boulevard. KNX helicopters were flying above the scene and said both southbound lanes of PCH were closed as of 5:30 p.m. Northbound PCH traffic was merged into one lane and southbound traffic was using the other northbound lane to get around the crash.

5:17 p.m. UPDATE KNX News is reporting the crash was a multi-car head-on collision on PCH near Sunset Boulevard. Southbound PCH is closed. One northbound lane is open.

Per a preliminary report from the Los Angeles Fire Department, six people were injured following a crash on Pacific Coast Highway at about 4:30 p.m.

The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station said the crash happened near Topanga Canyon Boulevard and was affecting traffic in both directions.

Both LAFD and Los Angeles County Fire were on their way to the scene just before 5 p.m. LAFD spokesperson Brian Humphrey said that the LAPD and the LA County Sheriff's Department would be on the scene to determine which crew would remain.

Witnesses on PCH told Patch that the southbound lane appeared to be closed about a quarter of a mile south of Topanga.
