Fired Up: LAFD Looks Ahead to 2011 in the Palisades

Firefighters at Stations 23 and 69 intend to spend more time with their families, take more vacations and count their blessings.

Patch visited Los Angeles Fire Stations 23 and 69 to find out what firefighters in the Palisades have planned for the New Year.

"It'll just be a working year," said firefighter Craig Thompson of Station 23. "Getting bills paid, that's all."

Capt. Scott Gribbons at is planning on heading to Mammoth for a ski trip.

"I'm not a big believer in New Year's resolutions," said Gribbons. "But I could always use losing a few pounds and healing my body from all the years of working downtown."

Firefighter Darnell Tolbert plans on spending more time with his family.

"We haven't had a vacation in about two or three years," said Tolbert. "Cancun, that's where I'd like to go. My wife is from Mexico; I have never been."

Fire Station 69's Capt. Kelly Toman hadn't given much thought to a New Year's resolution.

"But looking back on the current year, I know I've had many blessings with a son getting hired on the fire department, and adding a new member to my family with another daughter," he said.
