Firefighters Free Woman From Rocks at Sunset Beach

The woman is rescued at the stretch of beach near the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway.

Firefighters rescued a woman whose ankle got caught in the rocks in the Sunset Beach area Monday around noon.

Firefighters at told Pali Patch the woman was not surfing at the time, but had a surfboard with her.

The woman was not hurt.

The National Weather Service had issued a high surf advisory for Orange and San Diego counties through 2 a.m. Tuesday, with breakers from 6 to 10 feet. Closer to Los Angeles, , with occasional 12-foot sets.

Although firefighters say the waves weren't as big as expected Monday afternoon, officials are still warning beachgoers to be cautious. According to the National Weather Service, "inexperienced swimmers and surfers should stay out of the water."
