A suspicious item found near the front-door mailbox of Fire Station 69 Friday appeared to be no threat after an investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department Bomb Squad.
Officer Rosario Herrera said three police units and the bomb squad responded to 15040 Sunset Boulevard around 12 p.m. Friday for a report of a suspicious device left in a mailbox.
"There are no threats associated with this incident," Herrera said.
Detective Brandon Martin, who led the bomb squad, said the miscellaneous item someone dropped through fire station's front door was wrapped in cellaphane, and appeared to be something intended to be turned in for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
"We couldn't tell," Martin said. "We thought it could be a hazard."
A remote-controlled robot was used by the bomb squad to make sure the item was safe.
"We didn't want to mess with it," added Station 69 Capt. Mike Ketaily.
Caution tape blocked off Carey Street with Sunset Boulevard in Pacific Palisades Friday afternoon and traffic was backed up on Sunset Boulevard westbound as during the investigation. The scene was cleared by 3 p.m.
