The Los Angeles City Council signed off today on a $50,000 reward for information leading to whoever fatally shot 25-year-old man while driving in Del Rey.

Francisco Javier Ayala was shot near Braddock Drive and Berryman Avenue about 12:30 a.m. Saturday and died at the scene, police said.

Westside City Councilman Mike Bonin suggested the reward and introduced an emergency motion to get the process started.

"This is a heinous crime and a tragedy for not only Francisco's family, but for the entire community and city of Los Angeles," Bonin said.

Authorities said Ayala had been visiting with his family earlier and was not affiliated with any gang. There was no motive evident for the shooting, they said.

West Bureau detectives Luis Carranza and Kevin Pierce are seeking tips and can be reached at (213)382-9470. Anonymous tips can be directed to Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (8477).
