Cyclist hit on Temescal

A young man, approx age 25-27, was struck by an old model black Mercedes while riding in the uphill bike lane.  The driver of the vehicle was approx 27 years of age and identified himself as the owner of the car.  The cyclist was unresponsive and unconscious at the time LAFD paramedics arrived and appeared to have severe head trauma.  He was transported to St. Johns.  Several witnesses who claim to have seen the accident occur said that the cyclist was hit pretty hard and was thrown off of his bike and into the air by approx 10 to 20 feet.

I feel horribly for everyone concerned. A 27-year old cyclist is doing everything right. His family should be celebrating his life not commemorating it. RIP!

This is so very sad. I called 911. I can't get it out of my mind. I went back about an hour later and the traffic officer told me the driver of the car had been drinking. The bike path is so wide there-plenty of room. it is such a tragedy.

Very surreal. So many things going through my mind that make me think we could have done more, but who knows. He was in very bad shape. Felt like forever before the ambulance got there, I pleaded with the dispatcher to send a helicopter, etc. The driver was drinking?? He had suggested that he was also texting. A tragedy on every level.

This is horrible. I feel so sorry for the victim, his family, and everyone concerned. Just sad. I was really hoping and praying the cyclist would be ok. My thoughts are with everyone involved. That must have been horrific to see...so tragic for the victims family and the driver. Lives forever changed this day forward.
