Perfect Timing

I believe in perfect timing. The following is a lovely illustration of perfect timing that showed up through the purchase of my car.

I believe in perfect timing. It was not something I believed in until I began to see it show up in my life often. When you must have immediate gratification, you cannot perceive such timing as perfect for it is not defined by your desired timeline, but a far larger cosmic timeline. A pure rationalist who experiences the timing of events lining up perfectly will assume that it is all chance happenings; however, when you've seen this occur as often as I do you begin to question that.

The following is a beautiful illustration of perfect timing. Years ago my old blue Honda Civic started giving out. I had put a lot of money into constantly repairing an air conditioner that would not remain fixed. At the time I lived in the Valley, so it was really awful in the summer. Later on another truly annoying problem happened. My car would stall when I stopped but wouldn't when the air conditioning was off. So before stopping I had to turn the air conditioner off to avoid stalling.

Soon after that problem showed up, my registration was due accompanied by the required passing of the smog test. Suddenly the check engine light went on. I knew there was no way I could pass the smog test with the check engine light on, so I took it to the mechanic to see what could be done. He looked it over and was perplexed about the air conditioning behavior and the check engine light. He thought the cost of any repairs would be far higher than the value of the car. At this point I was just disgusted with how much money I had already put into the car and decided it was time to get a new one. However, I had some time to drive it before the registration was due.

One day I decided to test drive cars to see what might suit me. Upon doing many test drives, I decided I loved the feel of that year's new Honda Civic model. I had quite a lot of money in the bank--enough to buy a car, but not quite enough for that car.

That evening I went out for a hike with the Sierra Club at Griffith Park. I drove off to Forest Lawn from the 134 and stopped at the stop sign at the end of the off ramp. I looked and then proceeded forward. As I pulled out in the lane, a woman coming very fast rear-ended me. We exchanged information, and she pleaded not to have to go through the insurance as she found the whole ordeal annoying. She was driving a Mercedes and looked affluent, so I figured she was good for the money. I agreed.

I immediately brought my car to an auto body shop, and they told me the car was totaled. I was told the amount it would cost if I was foolish enough to fix it. Would you believe it? It was just the amount needed to purchase the new car I wanted. So I told the woman who rear-ended me the amount, and she wrote me a check. I then called the junk haulers who took the car away for $100. Soon after,  I bought the new car.

I can tell you endless stories like that. They just keep happening, and it is beautiful when they do. I don't have a scientific explanation for this nor do I accept it's by chance. On the other hand, I'm not sure it's by design either. I really don't know. However, approaching any challenge by anticipating perfect timing does take a lot of trust, and I will admit I didn't have that during this occurrence. I did freak out with that car accident. How was I to know when it happened what a blessing it was? You really have to wait things out to see.  It requires a very loose attitude and faith that the universe is conspiring to help. This is the approach of the new consciousness. It's called surrender.
