Marquez Knolls Neighbor Rescues Blind Dog in the Street

It was quite an afternoon for this blind dog in Pacific Palisades, after getting lost, disoriented and then found later to be found lying in the street.

During the annual Marquez Knolls Property Owners Association Saturday, June 1, neighbors helped resolve a dog escape before it took a bad turn, according to MKPOA Vice President Haldis Toppel.

Completely blind and 11.5 years old "Monkey" (a "meagle," as in half beagle, half mini pincsher) and her seeing-eye canine "Princess" escaped through an unlocked side door on Marquez Avenue while the owners were away on errands. A another little brown dog joined the journey as well.

"Monkey" became separated from "Princess" and, unable to see, became became disoriented and ended up lying down in traffic on Marquez Avenue, according to Toppel.

An approaching car driven by a Marquez resident picked up "Monkey" and left her with a neighbor while looking for the other two lost dogs. A message was then sent out through MKPOA.

Toppel said "Monkey" was eventually reunited with her owners and "Princess"  found her way back home. The little brown dog could not be found despite a long and extensive search, but was presumed to have made it home.

According to Monkey's owners, she was rescued when she was two months old along with her beagle mother. Monkey lost her sight in 2012 due to diabetes.
