2013 MusiCares Person of the Year gala takes place two days prior to the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards and celebrates the legendary singer and songwriter Bruce Springsteen. This year’s event will feature a silent auction in addition to a live music show. Rock superstars Jackson Browne, Elton John, John Legend, Patti Smith, Mavis Staples, Sting, Eddie Vedder, Neil Young and others will perform at the tribute concert in honor of Springsteen.

Gershman was thrilled to be asked to paint the legend and immersed herself into Springsteen’s world: she went through countless photographs, watched videos and studied the lyrics to his songs. She explained, “The lyrics revealed a complex range of emotions and allowed me to get an intimate vision of Bruce.”

Another decision she had to make was which Springsteen to portray. “Do I paint the twenty year old rebel, a sexy rock star? Or a middle aged man, yet still going strong musician?” said Gershman. She soon found she was creating a body of work, the “Bruce Springsteen Series.”

Zhenya mused, “I hope that through these images the viewer gets an intimate glimpse into Bruce Springsteen’s soul – the magic of portraiture of getting to know someone without ever meeting them. This series represents more than a face but a reflection of the depth of his lyrics and philosophy of a real man for real people.”
