Community Corner

The-Green-Heart at Broad Fest

Malibu artist Petra Eiko will be exhibiting for the second
time at The Broad Stage with her interactive public art
installation—the-green-heart project—on Sunday, September 1 from 11am–3pm.

“What is in your heart?–The world is listening” is a
large-scale community driven art project under the umbrella of the-green-heart
that has been displayed throughout California with thousands of
participants.  Community members are invited to express their hearts
anonymously on paper and post their creations on Eiko’s artwork to become part
of the installation.  The exhibition has also been scaled down to a
travel-sized version and has run in 15 Los Angeles high schools over the span
of 3 years.

The purpose of the-green-heart project is to inspire
and share positive ideas, thoughts and widen the human circle through public
art.  It was conceived as a platform to increase peace, one step at a
time.  It encourages understanding, hope and harmony between individuals
and nations.

The
installation: “What is in your heart?–The world is listening” came to fruition

after a trip Eiko took to Dubai.  She met a woman and discussed with
her in length the importance of “learning from and understanding” other
people to have a
better chance toward peace.  Writer/artist Eiko, who uses poetry to
increase awareness of the “self” and to
inspire more tolerance, recognized that love begins in the heart and
cannot be
defined without understanding the heart itself. Back in the United
States, she
transformed the single question “What is in your heart?” into an
interactive
art installation that shows what truly moves us and how we all share
common dreams and challenges.  Her project unites people and
brings communities together.  The-green-heart project generates a
feeling of connectedness that is
extremely precious throughout the world today.

By truly expressing our hearts on Eiko’s art wall,
these messages become part of the actual art piece, generating more
understanding.

All these unique expressions are beautifully shown
in special albums on www.the-green-heart.com and www.facebook.com/what.is.in.your.heart.  Selections will be placed in future installations for the world to
see.
