Shakespeare Santa Monica Presents Twelfth Night and The Taming of the Shrew

Shakespeare Santa Monica has been delighting audiences of

all ages with outdoor performances of Shakespeare’s comedies set in the

Tournament Tennis Courts at Reed Memorial Park in Santa Monica since 2004.

This
summer, Shakespeare Santa Monica returns for its 10th year

anniversary season with eight performances of Twelfth Night and six

performances of The Taming of the Shrew from August 9 - 31. Bring-your-own
picnic is encouraged. Admission is always a suggested donation of $20 or pay what you
can. Kids and teens 16 years old or younger are always free.

Known for offering top-notch Shakespeare productions, Shakespeare Santa
Monica celebrates its 10th year of fun, festive settings, actors
with the agility for Shakespearean Verse – true to the language and accessible
to audiences - and the great
physical comedy that enhances all of their audience friendly adaptations.

The company is comprised of aspiring student artists
and professional actors unified by their commitment to lifelong training in the
classics. Every year the handpicked company of students and professionals train
together for weeks before they pick up their scripts for the new season. They
train with Louis Scheeder of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts,
Classical Studio, Jean Louis Rodrique of UCLA and John Farmanesh-Bocca former
Directing Fellow at The Juilliard School and Guest Faculty at NYU.

Having given over 1500 youth complimentary tickets to area organizations,

Shakespeare Santa Monica continues to educate and enrich through the medium and magic of Shakespeare every summer.

One of the
Primary functions of Shakespeare Santa Monica is as a summer professional
training intensive in classical theatre acting, with teachers and directors
from some of the finest arts institutions in the nation. The Curriculum

consists of Text Analysis, Voice & Speech, Physical Approach, Scene Study,

as well as Audition Technique. The focus is on elevating the actors’ all around

‘game’, so that they approach classical text, as well as all other work, with

greater specificity, clarity, inspiration and daring. Because of the limited

sizes we get a chance to really take advantage of the fabulous training.
