Smart Shoppers Keep Gas Prices Down

Shop around for the lowest prices, says AAA, but don't drive too far for a good deal. Friday's decline in gas prices is the 22nd in the past 23 days.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline fell in Los Angeles County on Friday for the 18th consecutive day, dropping 1 cent to $4.258, its lowest amount since Feb. 24.

"A little more price competition appears to be happening among gas stations, which is good news for drivers," said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California. "Drivers can help encourage further price reductions by shopping around for the best prices, as long as they're not driving far out of their way."

The further you drive to get a good deal on gas, the more gas you'll burn in the process.
