Patch Video: Ground Zero Crowd Cheers Death of Osama bin Laden

Revelers gather in Manhattan to celebrate the killing of the al-Qaida leader.

New York City residents came from far and wide in the early morning hours Monday to exult in the slaying of their country's public enemy No. 1.

After an announcement late Sunday night from President Obama that U.S. strike force had carried out an operation that killed al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, residents packed the streets near Ground Zero, waving flags and cheering wildly for hours.

While police looked on, New Yorkers cheered, cried and paid tribute to the victims of the 9/11 attacks.
